Happy Anganwadi Inauguration 8th Feb

On Friday 8th Feb, 2019, Rtn Vijay Rajan sponsored two Anganwadis and touched the lives of over 40 Children this year and every year for years to come.  In Nagasandra, at the extreme end of a narrow street where tiny bylanes were also converted into so called “housing units”; within a locality where the breadth of the road was narrower than that of the width of a car, was where we handful of Rotarians ventured to find just a single housing unit that sparkled.

The erstwhile dilapidated floor crumbling units were now the sought after spic & span lively environment showcasing brightly painted picturesque walls that described the mood of the place – HAPPY!!

A formal inauguration of the Anganwadi was conducted by Rtn. Vijay Rajan – Unveiling the granite plaque (in which he specified not to engrave his name), by Prez. Rtn. Vivek Prabhu – cutting the ribbon and ably accompanied by Secy. Rtn.Musten Jiruwala, Director – Rtn. Deepak Nakra, Chairman – Rtn Dinesh M C who  took turns in lighting the lamp. Other Rotarians present were Rtn. Ramakrishna Mudgal and yours truly.

The sub 5 year olds, who hail from marginal income households; whose mothers depend on self help groups for their daily livelihood; were thrilled to have such a hygienic surrounding to operate out of.  While the lighting of the lamps illuminated the place, it was the smiles of joy and happiness of the children, the Government staff and the teachers that actually lit up the hearts of the few Rotarians present. The well organised storage unit that houses food articles in a working storeroom will help cater to the daily nutritional needs of the students and reduce wastage. The clean renovated toilet has the desired effect on children to enable them to participate in the activities of the school without a dither and other uncomfortable distractions.

Teachers and Government staff gathered in large numbers and visitors arrived even from neighbouring  Government schools to participate in an activity of a worthy cause. The event was heartwarming with children singing special songs, the teachers serving tasty delights to the Rotarians and the entire community present making their gratitude felt by honouring the Rotarians with garlands and shawls . As Rtn Vijay Rajan continued to warmly distribute Dairy Milk chocolates and Nandhini Mysore Pak to the little ones, it was time for us to say goodbye to yet another HAPPY Anganwadi !!!
